Caffeinated Workouts - Yes Please!

​The thought of workout can be an unpleasant one if it is not a core part of your lifestyle.  Our brain gives us the power to instantly feel tired, sick, or anxious when we are getting ready to embark on something we have no desire to do.  With exercise, the hardest part is simply getting started.  Once you start, your mind will most likely take you to a place of trying.

So what if starting didn't have to be the hardest part?  I would rather have the hardest part be during my workout instead of before it.  Otherwise, what's the point?  Research has shown that consuming caffeine at least 90 minutes before a workout makes it easier to get started and alters the way your  brain  perceives the level of effort you are putting into that workout.  So, not only can you get over the "get started" slump, you can give your workout some extra effort!

Some of the benefits of have caffeine before a workout include:
  • Increase in endurance
  • Increase in strength
  • Increase in speed
  • Decrease in perceived exertion (fatigue) 

These are not dramatic increases, but the addition of caffeine could help you lift a pound heavier, do some additional reps, jog another mile.
